The Power of Suggestion

I've always grown up watching PBS and still do. (I'm like one of the few people left on earth that still doesn't have cable!) But really, I love documentaries.

The last week, PBS has been airing a series, which I've seen before, about various topics. There's flea markets/swap meets, amusement parks, cemeteries, ice cream, sandwiches, and hot dogs. Well, that's what I can recall. They are all really light hearted stories of different locations' most famous. Like, a famous shaved ice place in Hawaii (Matsumoto's), a philly cheese steak place in Philly (Gino's), and a guy who sells hot dogs made of reindeer from a cart in Alaska. Really, they are interesting. hahaha You're probably like, what the hell is she talking about?!

Anyway, last week I caught; ice cream, flea markets, sandwiches, and hot dogs. OMG! Can you believe, I was so hungry by the end of that?! I'm sitting there watching these, after dinner I might add, and I just wanted to jump in the car and start driving to all the places they showed! Yeah I know, that's a lot of gas. This week I'm determined to eat some type of decent hot dog, soft serve ice cream, and a hot pastrami sandwich. Not good if you're on a diet, I suppose...maybe if I spread it out. LOL! AND...I have to hit a flea market. This I was planning on doing before hand but now it's a must! (A couple of thrift stores or garage sales may have to substitute) Hmmm...can we say sucker?

"Let Your Kids Paint On Their Walls"

("Peace" roses)

"I just heard the news...Randy Pausch has passed away after a long battle with cancer. Right away I started tearing up, got a lump in my throat, and my heart sank through the floor. I'm completely devastated. Because of his generosity, letting us all into his life, he became like family to so many even if we've never met him. I feel like we have all lost such a model mentor for us all. We all have something to learn from Randy. He truly had a unique way of looking at life. He didn't get lost in some rut like most of us do everyday. He took life head on and followed his dreams by upholding a great optimism. His life did come full circle as few do. I can honestly say that as I look at the achievements he has made. Although I am so sad about this loss, I am blessed to have had the opportunity to have learned from him some of the greatest lessons in my life.

If you haven't thought you have had the time to watch Randy Pausch's lecture, PLEASE do! Not only is his story a fascinating inspiration, he has a terrific humor too. Please watch his lecture, read his book, and visit his website! http://download.srv.cs.cmu.edu/~pausch/

The Perfect Mom...

Here's my random thought for the day...

The moms who try to be Mrs. Perfect. Not the wanna be June Cleavers, Donna Reeds, or even the moms who actually seem flawless to the naked eye. You know who I'm talking about...the PTA, always doing the magazine crafts, know-it-all, I have an answer to everything, baking/cooking from scratch, over the top show off, seem to have endless hours while you only have 2, moms. Do I have to say it? They drive me crazy.

I have one too close for comfort and I can't stand her. Not because she's a "hands-on" mom but because she's obnoxious, irritating, nosy, overly opinionated while un-informed, pain. She's always got something (rude) to say because she knows "everything", only asks questions to respond to your response about herself, loves to gloat about what her latest complex project is, and thinks that her kids are better than yours by making un-invited comments. (BTW-her kids are incredibly rude. So much so that their Grandmother can't stand them.) It's quite humorous though, a while back I was running through my latest Family Fun mag (from my son's fundraiser) and saw a craft. It was how to recycle your plastic bags by covering them in colored duct tape to make them "prettier". EWWWW. Talk about ugly. Plus, if you want to recycle them, you could just drop them off at the front of a store that takes them. Anyway, I thought to myself, "Who the hell is gonna do that?". This morning, I opened my email to find it sitting in my inbox from guess who...Yep. Her. Apparently, she's going to do it this weekend after her ten billion other things that she does to rub in your face. Ugh.

Don't get me wrong, I am proud and give much love to the mommies who multi-task, are involved with their children, handle the house, and try to make some money at the same time. We are all work horses and deserve our share of "props", applause, and praise...but some of us just go way to far. If your actions are for a purpose other than what it's true value is, you won't be rewarded or recognized in the light of which you desire. And you know what they say...it's not the amount of work but the quality of it that makes it worth while.

P.S. After you've cut (and thrown out) the tops and handles of your 9-10 plastic bags to be recycled, ironed them together between two sheets of parchment paper and fused together the two sheets to (re)make your bag, and stuck your chosen colors of duct tape all over them (and made handles out of the same tape, since you cut off the original ones), this is what your bag should look like. LOL!

Ebay...part 2

Wanna laugh? Here's a good one!!!

So, I'm sitting at the computer "watching" 3 listings that I want. At the same time, I'm making dinner...fried chicken. Well, I was almost done and turned on a burner (electric) to boil water for the frozen corn while I ran back to the computer which is like 7 feet away.

Okay, my dumb ass turned on the wrong burner! I so intelligently, had turned on the front burner which had the foil lined sheet pan with the finished chicken on it, which also had a brown paper bag and a couple of paper towels to absorb the oil. The damn thing caught fire!!! I start hitting it with the tongs I'm holding, while my husband starts yelling at me "get some wet towels or something". I start screaming at Yes-Yes to take No-No upstairs cause the smoke is getting really bad, hubby runs over to the sink with a wad of paper towels to wet them and comes running back over to dab out the fire spots...Duh! He didn't wet them enough at all (trying to save the dinner I suppose, food is too important) and soon he was holding a ball of fire! I'm goin "Holy Shit!!! OMG!!! Put that out!!" while he's yellin at me "get that outside!". So, I run the flaming pan to the backyard while wondering if he even saw the flames in his hand, smack it some more and run back in so I don't miss the stupid auctions. Can you believe I won all 3?! Meanwhile, my mom comes down from her room asking "what's burning?". She was alseep. I'm laughing telling her what she missed, she goes out to look at what I couldn't save, then tells me that it's still burning. Oh Crap! I almost set more than dinner on fire. Not much in our yard has been watered lately. (We're under "water watch" in Ca and yes, the state is still on fire)

What have we learned? Ebay can kill...and...two stupids don't make a smart. LOL!!!!!!!!

Ebay Junkie

Okay, it's done. I'm addicted to ebay...again.

It started with that toy kitchen for No-No. Now I can't get off there. I've moved onto toy food. Fisher Price to be exact, from the 1980's. I loved playing with mine when I was young. So, now I'm off to find all the pieces I can to build up our stash. (I don't want to go as far to say 'collection' as of yet) Buying lots and trying to turn the pieces I don't want.

The bidding itself is the worst. I've got it down so that I now can swoop in at the last second. It's really addicting. Goodness. Can you believe what I'm saying?! It's quite ridiculous if you ask me. And the worst of it is that I now have Yes-Yes, our 12 y/o son and my husband doing it too. It's not so relaxing (or fun) when you have people over your shoulder, breathing on you, waiting for the second you get up so they can get on and check their own listings!

"I Didn't Know"...

So, one of my biggest irritations is the excuse "I didn't know". WTF?! How can you not know?! Don't you have a mouth to ask? Didn't people teach you that questions are the key to knowledge? Really. Where the hell have you been, under a rock?

I had another one of those moments today and it just pisses me off. Someone in my house is always saying that. Like they'd rather play stupid than ask someone else a simple question. I want to know...why do you really want to look that stupid. I know you can't be...I just don't get it.

I'm the total opposite, so it just really gets me. I would rather fake intelligence than stupidity. Wouldn't you? Yeah, there's times where it is called upon to act like you didn't know, but how can you really live your whole life that way? Ugh!

Just a random rant. Probably more to come. LOL

Are You Stuck?

LOL! I've been there many times. You must be like me...I visit other people's blogs, see something I like, click on it to see where it takes me so I can get one. The trouble is, not everything goes "there" and sometimes you're at a loss on how to get what you want on your blog. I have just recently updated this site and it took me FOREVER. I am in no way any kind of expert in html, css, or xml. However, I am a bit more mechanical, and usually figure it out on my own with some good instructions.

Here are a some links that I have found along the way. I have used many of the downloads, links, or tips in these sites. They are safe and great resources for the noob blogger. This list is constantly growing as I find more, so check back or subscribe here to get the latest updates!

Get $$$

As a blogger with only about a month and a half under my belt, I have yet a lot to learn. I do know that the potential is great if you have the patience and the motivation.

It does start off slowly but in time you will learn more tricks & tips and have more to share with others. It is VERY possible to make money doing paid posts and product/service reviews. But, like I said, it is not a get rich scheme and does not happen overnight. It does require a bit of your time and some patience. Sign up and give it a go...you have nothing to lose. ;o)

Update #1:My first post was on August 19, 2008. Since then (about 2 weeks ago), I have made $148.76. Not too bad, considering that I miss the two days of the weekend. Like I said, it's slow but once you find the right companies for you, and spend some time in it, it'll pay off.

Update #2: It has now been a little longer ( around 2/12-3 weeks) and I am averaging around $100+ per week. I still mainly use one blog, so this amount really isn't to shabby. To date, I have earned $259.68 in 17 days of posting. I'm happy, it will pay for some of the things I need for the kids and just keep growing.

30 Day Update: So, I thought I'd post one more update for anyone interested. It has been a month to date of my first post. In reality, the actual number of days I have done those posts are only 22 of 30 days. As of today, I have $304.68 in my account waiting for approval and payment. Remember, this is only 22 days of posting (about 3 weeks) I have missed about a week here and there, so it's not a full month. Not to mention that I've been really busy and haven't posted as much some days. Most of this has been done with just one blog, a few on another, but not many. Can you see the potential here? What are you waiting for? LOL

Day 1 ~ Grandma's B*day

So. Today is the first day of my blog. I don't really know what I'll be writing about...my mind jumps around a lot.

Today is also my Grandma's 81st birthday! She has a "lighter" case of Alzheimer's, otherwise known as dementia, and doesn't know what day it is. It seems that she's having a better day today though. It's a bumpy ride to say the least. We're having her over for dinner and cake. She'll probably be surprised again when the cake comes out. She's quite comical about her misgivings.

As time wears on, I think I'll have a lot to say. Normally, I do anyway. lol For now, I'll say goodbye.

Note ~ I love cupcakes! Can you tell?
